Gwen Rakotovao is a French award-winning dancer and choreographer originally from Madagascar.

Gwen  is a graduated of the  Ailey School and the Artistic Director of The Gwen Rakotovao Company (GRC).

Gwen most recent creation, L’amour. La liberté. (Love. Freedom.), is a transcendent dance evening production featuring original music by Fédéric Chopin interpreted by the Leeds College of Music.

She has worked with many american choreographers and performed as a principal dancer at notable venues and festivals such at the Transeuropéenne (Zénith de Rouen), The Fringe Festival (Scotland), Théâtre du Gymnase (Paris), Baryshnikov Arts Center (New York), Chopin festival  (Warsaw), Afrik UrbanArts ( Abidjan), Intitut Français (Agadir), Alliance française (Bangkok), Fondation des Etats Unis ( Paris) to name a few. Gwen lives her passion all around the world and her dedication to dance entitled her to teach Master Classes and workshops at prestigious dance institutions in France, Madagascar, in the French Caribbean, Thailand, Japan and Morocco including the French National Conservatory of Rouen and the Juste Debout School. In 2012 she was awarded the gold medal at the Biarritz international dance competition. In 2013 Gwen Rakotovao was invited by Rebecca Rods, artistic director of Black Light productions and vocal coach at Got Talent Espana,  to choreograph the new musical Pepe Grillo by the Black Light Productions which was premiered at the Sala Galileo on December 1st 2013 in Madrid. During the summer 2015, she became a finalist at the 6th Korea International Modern Dance Competition and the 12th Seoul International Dance Competition.

More recently she joined YKProjects on its new production We Almost Forgot to be premiere at Ballhaus Naunystrasse in Berlin in June 2016.

In addition, Gwen Rakotovao founded an outreach dance program in Madagascar for children in need and published two books, Un voyage à Madagascar and the novel for children Zari L’intrépide. She regularly writes articles for the blog of the latest book.

In 2009 she became a contestant in the Miss Diaspora Models pageant in New York, USA, representing Madagascar. Since then she had been featured from Online Magazines to Essence Magazine. She wrote columns for Toujours Soolid, Watsa Mada and got published in the Air Asia inflight magazine in March 2013. Since 2010 Gwen is the patron of the Malagasy soccer Club Mimosa Mada Sport And the ambassador of the Eco-Sys Action Football Cup  Helping them in their mission to empower communities to sustainably benefit from their ecosystem and aiming to contribute to the development of the Malagasy soccer.
